How nature heals
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.”
- Rachel Carson, marine biologist, writer and conservationist.I have learned through open water swimming that nature offers us time and space to heal. This photo is a still I took from footage of a group marine mollusks taken near Greenpoint in Brighton, near my home.
In my substack and other writings I will speak regularly of the healing quality of nature and the opportunity we each have to build a profound connection with Her. I have learned its what connects us with our humanity and what is best in us. -
Where there is sorrow, there is holy ground'
This quote comes from De Profundis, a long and deeply personal letter written by Oscar Wilde to his former lover Lord Alfred Douglas, during the two years he was incarcerated in Reading Goal.
It was a time of deep sorrow for Wilde as he dealt with the loss of his mother (during his incarceration) together with his public humiliation. Yet it was also time a personal growth and transformation.
Wilde was to realise that ‘holy ground’ was born of suffering. That suffering strips us of our pretences and our ego, and connects us with deeper truths and beauty, that ultimately elevates the human spirit. It’s something we’ll discuss extensively in the substack forum and other conversations in the Stillness Room.
Feel welcome to share in the comments how your loss has led to your transformation or growth.
